Our Vision

A world where no child, young person or parent feels worthless, silenced or invisible free from self-hate, identity loss and poverty and instead surrounded by love, compassion and understanding.

We envision communities where children, young people and families are equipped with the tools, support and spaces they need from trauma-informed environments like the Reset Room, to advocacy and empowerment through the Parents Lounge, inclusive youth activities, SEND support and community programmes so they can heal, grow and become confident, capable human beings who strive to be the best they can be.

We are guided by the belief that we should “live in the world and not be of the world” choosing hope over harm, community over isolation, and justice over inequality.

About Us

Break Tha Cycle is a youth- and community-led charity, established in 2015 in response to rising levels of serious youth violence and other issues affecting the wider community. We are based in the London Borough of Waltham Forest and work across the surrounding areas. The charity is governed by a Board of Trustees made up of local residents, skilled practitioners and young people.

We support disadvantaged children, young people, their families and the wider community, promoting positive engagement, inclusion and resilience. Our work focuses in particular on those who are disproportionately disadvantaged through social exclusion, systemic inequality or a challenging start in life including young people and families from global majority backgrounds.

Much of our work centres on addressing the disproportionality and disadvantage faced by young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and those on the periphery of, or already in contact with, the criminal justice system who often experience racial and adultification bias. We provide access to services, advocacy and opportunities that many families might not otherwise be able to reach.

Our programmes include The Reset Room (a safe, trauma-informed space that supports emotional regulation, wellbeing and positive behaviour), the Parents Lounge (advocacy, guidance and practical support around exclusions, SEND, EHCPs and wider family needs), inclusive youth clubs and activities, SEND-focused groups and holiday provision, and wider community projects and events that bring local people together.

We are passionate about working alongside our communities to generate positive futures. Our purpose is to support children, young people and their families to reconnect with education and mainstream society, challenge stereotypes, build confidence and resilience, and realise their full potential through meaningful, lasting change.
